Performance Remediation
The Background
A large Australian bank had purchased a Commerical Off The Shelf (COTS) lending solution from an offshore vendor. The Performance requirements of the solution required 700 concurrent users to utilise the system during peak periods.
One month prior to launching, Performance Testing highlighted that the application could not handle any more than 190 users. The launch of the application was placed on hold indefinitely.
The Wow! Experience Delivered
Odecee was engaged within two weeks to remediate the application. The target: within 3 months reach 700 concurrent users, improve response times, and with no additional hardware capacity.
Odecee implemented their Performance Remediation Process which involved:
- Assessment of the Performance Test Results
- Prioritisation of the Top 10 transactions to be targetted for remediation
- Profiling of Top 10 transactions
- Recommended targetted fixes for the offshore development team
Within 12 weeks the remediated application was ready for a second round of Performance Testing.
The remediated application scaled to 1,230 concurrent users (650% improvement) and response times improved by 62% (on average) with no changes to hardware or application server configuration!
Performance Testing
The Background
A leading Australian Retailer required Performance Testing of their updated online shopping website. They had experienced performance problems with their site in production and needed a Performance team that could advise on ways to improve application performance – not just Performance Test it.
The Wow! Experience Delivered
Odecee were engaged to deliver a Performance Test strategy that involved Performance Engineering to assist with diagnosing the application performance problems. During the second Performance Testing cycle the Odecee Performance Engineer implemented and configured diagnostic tools to analyse the J2EE application under load.
The Odecee Performance team delivered the Performance Test Summary Report on time with detailed recommendations on next steps to remediate the application. The client described Odecee’s Performance services as the “best they had seen”.
Program Deployment Automation
The Background
A large Australian organisation was running a multimillion dollar program of work that involved multiple vendors, a System Integrator partner, and an internal offshore development team. This program was experiencing problems in their environment management team. Building a new environment took weeks, updating an existing environment took 5 business days, and environment quality concerns had been raised.
The Wow! Experience Delivered
Odecee’s Automation team were engaged to improve the deployment process on the program. Odecee implemented their Build Pipeline and application deployment times were reduced to 42 minutes instead of 5 days! In addition, the process was automated enabled concurrent deployments and environment defects were significantly reduced.
The client was so impressed with the outcome, Odecee was requested to customise and rollout the Build Pipeline to their enterprise as a service offering.
Construction and Simplification
The Background
A large Australian bank had a sophisticated and complex J2EE corporate internet banking solution. The complexity of the implementation resulted in:
- time to market of new features and enhancements was slow;
- developer productivity was hindered with local build times taking over 2.5 hours;
- software quality was comprised with developers only working on a subset of the codebase;
- software deployments were slow and error prone due to the complexities of the environment configuration.

An Odecee Senior Software Engineer from our Construction service line proposed a remediation project that simplified the solution. The remediation didn’t compromise the business features or the user experience. It involved collapsing Application Server clusters, and simplifying the deployment artefacts. As a result of this project, developer productivity significantly increased with local builds reduced to 40 minutes, simplified deployments, and the decommissioning of 2 hardware boxes.
